Pre-Op Info

General Instructions the Day Before Surgery

Please follow these patient instructions prior to your surgery. You may also be given additional instructions specific to your procedure by your MISA surgeon and nurse.

DO NOT eat or drink anything after midnight the night before surgery, unless instructed otherwise. This includes water, food, gum, ice chips and mints. You may have nothing by mouth prior to surgery.
For patients having anesthesia services, you will not be permitted to drive yourself, walk, or use public transportation to get home following outpatient surgery.
Please make arrangements for a responsible adult to drive you home and remain with you during the first night after surgery.
DO NOT drink alcoholic beverages 24 hours prior to surgery.
DO NOT smoke 12 hours prior to surgery.
Please bathe or shower the night before or the morning of surgery.
DO NOT wear jewelry, makeup or contact lenses the day of surgery.
If you use insulin or inhalers, please bring them with you to the hospital.
As a rule, dentures and glasses must be removed prior to surgery.
Leave valuables at home.
Notify our office immediately if you have a change in your physical condition prior to surgery such as a cold, fever or sore throat.

Post-Op Info

General Instructions for After Surgery

Please read these patient instructions prior to surgery to familiarize yourself with post operative care.

Call our office within a day or two after your surgery or discharge from the hospital to arrange a follow up appointment .
For patients having anesthesia services, DO NOT drive a motor vehicle, operate power tools, sign any legal documents, or drink alcoholic beverages for 24 hours following your surgery.
You may resume your normal diet unless otherwise instructed.
Take pain medication with food (cracker, toast, etc).

IF OFFICE IS CLOSED and an EMERGENCY arises, please call 911 or go to the Emergency Department.
