Pre-Op Info

General Instructions the Day Before Surgery

Please follow the important patient informational instructions below before your surgery to ensure a safe procedure and recovery.  More instructions may be provided by your MISA surgeon and nurse for your particular procedure.

  • Do NOT eat or drink anything, including water, gum or mints after midnight of the night before surgery unless you are given different instructions by your surgeon, or anesthesiologist.
  • For patients having anesthesia services, you will not be permitted to drive yourself home after surgery, walk home, or use public transportation.
  • Please make arrangements for a responsible adult to drive you home following your surgery and remain with you during the first night after surgery. Otherwise, your surgery may be cancelled.
  • No alcoholic beverages 24 hours prior to surgery.
  • Do not smoke 12 hours prior to surgery.
  • Please bathe, or shower, the night before or the morning of surgery.
  • No jewelry, makeup, or contact lenses should be worn the day of surgery. 
  • If you use insulin or inhalers, please bring them with you to the hospital.
  • As a rule, dentures and glasses must be removed prior to surgery.
  • Leave valuables at home. 
  • Notify your surgeon immediatley if you a change in your physical condition prior to surgery: cold, fever, chills, or infection.

Post-Op Info

General Instructions for Post-Op

Please read the important patient informational instructions below before surgery to ensure a successful recovery in knowing your post-op surgical care.

  • Call Mid Illini Surgical Associates for your post-op appointment.
  • Post-op discomfort may be experienced and will be appropriately addressed.
  • For patients having anesthesia services, DO NOT drive a motor vehicle, operate power tools or drink alcholic beverages for at least 24 hours.
  • If you have any questions or problems, please call our office

IF OFFICE IS CLOSED and an EMERGENCY arises, please call 911 or go to the Emergency Department.
