VNUS® Closure®

A Revolutionary Procedure for Fighting Varicose Veins

Looking for younger looking legs?!

Although there isn’t a procedure to actually make your legs younger, the new VNUS® Closure® can certainly give them that appearance! A clinically proven, minimally invasive procedure that treats varicose veins and their underlying cause – venous reflux – with little or no pain, VNUS Closure helps treat the pain and swelling caused by varicose veins.

Do you experience discomfort, swelling and varicose veins?

Nearly 25 million people in the United States suffer from venous reflux, which causes leg pain and swelling. Traditionally, patients diagnosed with this disease have had to undergo varicose vein stripping surgery, but now patients can be treated with VNUS Closure, which is not as invasive as varicose vein stripping… and far less painful.  In fact, venous reflux disease was rarely treated in the past, due to the high morbidity associated with the traditional method of vein stripping. But now most patients can walk away after VNUS Closure and resume everyday activities at home or work within a day!

What is Venous Reflux Disease?

Healthy leg veins contain valves that open and close to assist the return of blood back to the heart.  Venous reflux develops when the valves that keep blood flowing out of the legs and back to the heart become damaged or diseased. As a result, vein valves will not close properly, which leads to symptoms of varicose veins, pain, swollen limbs, leg heaviness and fatigue, skin changes and skin ulcers. This disease can be progressive and symptoms can worsen over time if left untreated.

What is involved with the VNUS® Closure® Procedure?

The VNUS® Closure® is a minimally invasive alternative to traditional vein stripping for patients with superficial venous reflux. During the procedure, a catheter – a small tube with an electrode on the tip – is inserted into the vein. Radiofrequency (RF) energy is delivered to the vein wall, and the vein is closed as the catheter is withdrawn through the length of the vessel.

Well suited as an outpatient procedure, VNUS usually requires only a local or regional anesthesia and is performed through a small incision or skin puncture. Patients enjoy not only a short recovery time, but a good cosmetic outcome as well.

What are potential risks and complications?

As with any medical or surgical procedure, potential risks and complications exist with the VNUS Closure. Potential complications can include but are not limited to: vessel perforation, thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, hematoma, infection, numbness or tingling and /or skin burn.  During your consultation, we can discuss any risks with you and answer your questions completely.
