A subspecialty of general surgery in which diseases of the vascular system (arteries and veins) are managed, vascular specialists typically perform surgical interventions. The vascular surgeon is trained in the diagnosis and management of diseases affecting all parts of the vascular system except that of the heart and brain.
 At MISA, we are privileged to have specialists who can perform a variety of surgical procedures. Our vascular specialists, Dr. Scott Reid and Dr. Brian Heywood, are Board certified surgeons with privileges at all the Peoria hospitals, as well as Pekin Hospital. In addition, they are available for second opinions and consultations on a variety of treatments by appointment. Should surgery be necessary, they perform minimally invasive surgery and advanced laparoscopic procedures whenever possible.
