Specialties

Mid Illini Surgical Associates offers evaluation and surgical treatment for many diseases, including gastrointestinal conditions, anorectal problems, vascular diseases, non-cosmetic breast disorders, abdominal diseases, hernia repairs and treatment of gallbladder / gallstones. We also offer minor in-office removal of cysts and moles.

Endocrine Surgery involves surgical treatment of diseases involving the group of glands in the body that secrete hormones. Some of the treatments we provide include thyroid-goiter, spleen and pancreas surgeries.

Laparoscopic Surgery, a minimally invasive approach using an instrument similar to a telescope, allows our physicians to perform the surgery while viewing the area on a video monitor. This allows the surgeon to perform a surgical procedure through small incisions and often results in a shorter recovery period, less post-operative pain and less scarring. Our doctors routinely perform surgical treatments on the colon, gallbladder, appendix, and abdominal, inguinal or hiatal hernia repairs. We also perform diagnostic thoracic surgery.

Colo-Rectal Procedures may be used for colon and rectal cancer, polyps, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis and anal conditions such as hemorrhoids, fissures, abscesses and fistulas. Colon and rectal specialists also have in-depth knowledge of intestinal and anorectal physiology required for treatment of constipation and rectal incontinence.

Endoscopy allows our surgeons to thoroughly examine and to biopsy the intestinal tracts utilizing a flexible fiberoptic endoscope. Endoscopic procedures assist in diagnosis and treatment of various conditions.

Vascular Surgery is devoted to the care and treatment of blood vessels outside the heart and brain. Our surgeons treat arteries that carry oxygenated blood from the heart to all areas of the body, as well as veins that return blood to the heart. These vessels may become blocked with plaque – buildup of cholesterol and other fatty products inside the blood vessel. Our surgeons can perform several minimally invasive treatment options instead of conventional surgery. These procedures usually mean a shorter recovery and less pain.

The following is a brief list of the vascular conditions our surgeons can address:

  • Aortic Aneurysms
  • Carotid Artery Disease
  • Diseases of the Legs related to diabetes
  • Artery or vein insufficiency and aneurysm

Some treatments we perform for these conditions include:

Endovascular Surgery is performed from within the blood vessel. Relatively new, this type of surgery is safer, with fewer risks and can be used for treating problems that can develop in vessels. Endovascular surgery uses a smaller artery to access the problem and does not require general anesthesia. Most endovascular procedures involve placing a catheter into the groin and then advancing to the area to treat. Although some people may not be candidates for this procedure,we strive to present all surgical options so patients can fully understand and evaluate which approach will provide the best outcome.
