Jayaraj Salimath, DO joined Mid Illini Surgical Associates practice in 2007.  Prior to becoming a surgeon, he was a Registered Nurse which created a stronger passion for medicine.  He then went onto medical school and become a Board Certified General Surgeon, a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Surgery and received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Michigan State University where he also completed his internship. 

He attained his general surgery residency at Ingham Regional Medical Center in Michigan in addition to accomplishing his Fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in Weston, Florida.  He is now a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery with the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria, Illinois.

Dr. Salimath specializes in minimally invasive bariatric weight loss surgery including: Gastric Bypass, Sleeve Gastrectomy, Lap-Band® as well as general surgery procedures.  He also has a special interest in surgeries to assist with gastric reflux.

Dr. Salimath serves on the medical staff at Methodist Medical Center of Peoria,  Proctor Hospital and Pekin Hospital.

Dr. Salimath and his wife have two daughters.  His hobbies include traveling, being a fan of Michigan State basketball and spending time with friends.
